How educators on the Blackfeet Reservation are using (very) heavy metal to prevent suicide and process grief

Facing darkness head-on is the guiding principle for a new semester-long heavy metal class at two schools on the Blackfeet Reservation. During the 18-week class, students watch and analyze music videos and hear from professional musicians. They also talk openly about suicide and grief. Instructor Charlie Speicher encourages students to engage with art to cope with distress and make meaning from pain.
